Its principle is simple: occupying volume in the stomach in order to provoke the feeling of satiety quickly. In this way, due to the presence of the balloon, the person eats less and loses weight without frustration within the framework of multi-disciplinary medical care.
The implantation of the Heliosphere® intragastric balloon is performed by an experienced gastroenterologist, previously trained in the use of this new generation of air balloon, under general anaesthetic with endoscopic monitoring.
The operation takes less than an hour.
Explantation is performed in the same conditions.
The duration of implantation with the Heliosphere® intragastric balloon is 6 months.
The Heliosphere® balloon is introduced into the stomach by the endoscopic approach (through the mouth), then filled with air to inflate it so as to occupy an internal portion of the stomach, thus stimulating the satiety mechanoreceptors.
This new, non-invasive technique makes a significant reduction of excess weight possible in patients for whom medical and dietary treatments have failed. It must be supported by re-education in order to change the dietary behaviour of the patients.
The Heliosphere® intragastric balloon is completely innovative in its design.
Indeed, it is filled with air and weighs less than 30g. Three years of research have been necessary to perfect it.
The side effects described in the scientific literature (nausea, vomiting) have been reduced by 80% in comparison with the liquid balloon.
